Why FE?

Inspired by The Food Network's hit series, Iron Chef, this blog's purpose is to force me to experiment in the kitchen one ingredient at a time. Each session, I call upon a friend, relative, fellow foodie, or combination thereof, to propose one raw ingredient from which I must create an appetizer, a main dish and a dessert.

FE is the periodic symbol for iron. Iron is most often associated with strength, power and steadfastness. But, under extreme pressure, iron can be molded and adapted for a variety of uses. Ultimately, the goal of this blog is personal transformation through external "pressure" and inspiration.

Fe is also the Spanish word for faith. As I'm currently residing in Spain, the language and culture (and availability of groceries) will greatly influence this blog's direction. More often than not, cooking and baking like the pros require that extra something. My grandma calls it love. It is also referred to as passion. But really, in the end, taking risks and experimenting requires a heaping spoonful of pure and simple faith.
